The Advanced Step cardio exercise on the Wii Fit is an excellent way to burn those extra calories – but are you burning as many as you could be? These 4 easy tips below will have you on your way to getting the most out of your Advanced Step work out!
#1 – Repeat the work out
The Advanced Step work out is only about 5 minutes which isn’t very long. If you can, do the Advanced Step 2 – 6 times (10 – 30 minutes).#2 – Keep moving
You want to elevate your heart rate (to around 128bpm) and keep it there while you Step which means you need to keep moving. Unfortunately, the Wii takes some time while it loads the next work out and if we just stand there while the Wii does its post-workout jabbering, our heart rate will decrease. I keep moving by doing the basic steps while I wait for my next Step session to begin.#3 – Raise your board
The Wii Fit Balance Board is only about 2-3 inches off the ground while your basic Step board is 4 – 6 inches. An Aerobic Step riser for the Wii Fit Balance Board
will bring your Balance Board up to a full 4 inches and increase the intensity of your Step work out by 12 to 15 percent. It’s not ony for Step either, you can use it to get a better work out with other Wii exercises as well such as Boxing and Free Step.#4 – Big arm movements
You’ll notice that Advanced Step will urge you to clap your hands. Not only does this help you keep in tune with the rhythm, it really gets your heart rate elevated as well – so clap away!Tips:
- Can’t make a lot of noise? Don’t worry, simply swinging your arms and bringing them together without actually clapping will still do the trick!
- Want Perfect steps? It can be a little tricky however I have found that the ideal time to step on and off the balance board is right as it scrolls to the next move.
- Step aerobics is about rythm, so the music is synced to the steps. Try using that as a guide to time your movements – you’ll get a more intense work out AND perfect steps!

Thanks for sharing these tips. I was wondering why I don’t get perfect steps all the time even though I didn’t miss any. Do you know if the free step game is any better? I tried it twice but it seems to go too slow for me and I get bored.
Good luck with your fitness routine, I’m trying to lose about 15lbs. so I am on the journey with you… and my Wii!! LOL
